Happy Birthday Flower Cake

cake made with flowers

I celebrated my birthday last week, so I decided to make a flower cake! It almost looks as delicious as the real thing! I purchased all the flowers from my local grocery store!

No to the Sugar BUT Yes to Flowers!

For the base, I used burgundy cushion poms to give it a rich, chocolatey appearance.

I adorned the top with seeded eucalyptus, roses, and Gerbera daisies for a colorful, fresh finish.

Jade Cake Plate

I placed the flower cake on my beloved jadeite cake plate stand. …which funny enough I received as a bday gift last year from my family.

Cake Plates can display more than just cakes!

And speaking of jadeite cake plates, they are perfect for displaying more than just cakes

How to Make a Flower "Birthday Cake" Arrangement

Creating a floral birthday cake arrangement is a beautiful and creative way to celebrate! Here’s how to make your own:

Materials:

- floral foam

- Cushion flowers (like mums, asters, or button poms) for the "cake" sides

- Roses or any velvety flowers for the "frosting" top

- Birthday candles

- Cake plate stand

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Base

Start by soaking the floral foam in water until fully saturated, and place it on a shallow dish or plate to catch any drips. Start by cutting your oasis floral foam into a round shape, about the size of a small cake.

Note: floral foam is a porous, water-absorbing foam used in floral arrangements to support fresh flowers and keep them hydrated. Available in various shapes and sizes, it provides stability and helps maintain the desired shape of the arrangement.

2. Create the Sides

Insert cushion flowers around the sides of the foam circle. The fluffy cushion flowers will cover the foam and create the look of the cake’s sides. Press the stems in gently but firmly so that they hold securely.

3. Add the "Frosting" Top

On the top surface, insert roses or other velvety flowers for a lush, soft texture—almost like frosting. Arrange them closely together so there are no gaps.

4. Finish with Candles

For that birthday feel, add a few candles by inserting them gently between the flowers on top. Be mindful of spacing if you plan to light them.

And that’s it! Your floral “cake” is ready to display. It’s a whimsical centerpiece that’s perfect for any birthday celebration in a reading nook, on a dining table, or even as a surprise gift.
