Cabbage & Roses: A Floral Fusion
I love combining flowers and vegetables in my arrangements, so this week I created something special: a stunning blend of cabbage and roses. I absolutely adore the simple elegance of this display, especially when it’s placed on my jadeite cake stand, which enhances its beauty even further.
This cake stand is a cherished gift from my family, sourced from one of my favorite shops in Austin. It’s truly a treasured piece in my collection.
The arrangement of sophisticated roses paired with earthy cabbage beautifully reflects my style, lifestyle, and appreciation for all things lovely. While it looks like I carved the cabbage, I actually just wrapped it around the bowl. A little floral tape helps secure the leaves to the container, creating this stunning effect. See recipe below.
Here’s a step-by-step guide for creating a cabbage and rose arrangement:
1. Gather Your Materials:
- Fresh roses
- Cabbage (any variety)
- A container or bowl
- Floral tape
- A cake stand (optional, for display)
2. Prepare the Cabbage:
- Choose a cabbage, peel off the large outer leaves, and wrap it around the sides of your container or bowl. This gives the illusion that the cabbage has been carved out.
3. Secure the Cabbage:
- Use floral dots to attach the leaves of the cabbage to the container, ensuring it stays in place. (See below)
4. Arrange the Roses:
- Trim the stems of the roses and insert them into the container, arranging them in a way that complements the cabbage. Cut the stem short enough so the roses sit on the top of the container. Pack them tight so they stay put or use a flower frog, (See below)
5. Elevate the Display:
- For an added touch of elegance, place your arrangement on a beautiful cake stand, like a jadeite one.
6. Enjoy Your Creation:
- Step back and admire your simple yet sophisticated arrangement, showcasing the perfect blend of flowers and veggies.
