Transform Old Furniture with a Splash of Color

AFTER

Here is the after version. Thanking me for the update.

BEFORE

Here ithe before version - begging me for a refresh.

This old dresser has been hanging out with me for years. Lately, she has been staring at me asking for a refresh.

I had a leftover can of milk-pail blue paint, so gave it a few coats. I have to admit, I kind of love the update. It gives off an old Hollywood vibe. It even pairs beautifully with hot pink flowers.

Now, I wish I could end the story there with a happy little ending, but that’s not how it goes. With the paintbrush still in hand and a free Saturday ahead, I took the blue paint upstairs and painted a second dresser. Same blue.

Unfortunately, this one didn’t turn out as well. It looks less like "old Hollywood" and more like a hand-me-down dresser that someone painted with leftover paint.

But don’t worry, I didn’t leave her in such a sad state! I gussied her up with some high-gloss white, and now all is well in the world again.

Oh, and I ended up painting this side table too. It had been sitting out on the porch, and I wasn’t too fond of it, so with paintbrush in hand, I just went for it without thinking much. Turns out, the blue works well on this one, especially against my white walls.

My philosophy is, if you don’t like the piece to begin with, what do you have to lose? A little paint can go a long way, and with just a bit of love and attention, your furniture can come back to life.
