Create a Modern Tulip Arrangement with a Cube Vase and Grid Technique

Tulips are a stunning choice for creating arrangements with a fresh, modern twist, especially when displayed in a chic cube vase. One of the simplest ways to keep your tulips in place while showcasing each bloom is by using a *tic-tac-toe grid* with scrapbooking tape across the vase's opening.

What You’ll Need:

- A cube vase

- Scrapbooking tape (in a color or design that complements your tulips)

- Fresh tulips in your favorite color(s)

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Create the Grid: First, make sure your vase is clean and dry. Using the scrapbooking tape, create a grid across the top of the vase, as if playing tic-tac-toe. This technique will help hold each tulip in place and prevent them from leaning.

2. Cut the Tulips: Trim each tulip stem to just reach the top edge of the vase. This height gives a sophisticated look, with each flower sitting just above the rim for a modern, structured effect.

3. Arrange the Tulips: Place each tulip stem in one of the squares created by the tape grid. This keeps each bloom beautifully spaced and allows each flower to shine.

4. Maintenance Tip: Keep in mind that tulips have a unique quality—they continue to grow even after being cut! Expect them to grow up to an inch each day, giving your arrangement a dynamic feel over time. Adjust them as needed to maintain your desired look.

This simple grid technique with a cube vase gives you a structured, modern look while allowing the natural beauty and movement of tulips to shine. Perfect for any minimalist space or anyone looking to showcase spring’s elegance with a modern twist!

During the pandemic, I filmed a few floral tutorials on my porch for Austin Community College. The sound quality isn’t perfect since I recorded them on my phone outdoors, but you can still learn how to make the arrangement above, along with a simple tulip-in-mason-jar design.

No cube vase at home? No problem! Mason jars make fantastic alternatives. Their wide mouth is just the right size for holding multiple flowers, and the height is ideal for most floral stems.

Here, I foraged in my backyard and added a few garlic flowers for a unique touch of texture.
