Reviving a Love Seat with a Tablecloth Slipcover

Cozy Moments at the Table
I gave my old love seat new life by slipcovering it with an Anthropologie tablecloth, and I used the matching napkins to recover the pillows.

Napkin Pillowcases

I used the matching napkins as pillow covers.

Before

Nice round shape to this piece, but the fabric looking bit worn and tired.

I liked the wood frame, but the original fabric had become too dingy for my liking. Now, with the slipcover, it’s easy to clean and refresh. Honestly, it wasn’t as hard as I expected—and that’s coming from someone who can barely hem a curtain! I simply wrapped the tablecloth around each section, cut it to fit, and sewed it all together. My biggest worry was running out of fabric, so I prioritized the areas that would be visible. As you can see, I came up a bit short for the decking, so I used some leftover muslin to cover it.

During

To ensure I had enough fabric for the visible areas, I focused on covering those first and used muslin for the decking.

Velco Zipper

I went with iron-on Velcro tape instead of zippers—sewing those was just not in my wheelhouse.

When it came to the pillows, no sewing was required. I used Velcro with fabric glue

All these years later, I still adore the shape, size, and floral pattern. We use it every day, and it’s traveled all around the house—living room, sitting room, bedroom—but its favorite spot has always been the kitchen.

This pic captures a small glimpse of that couch before the slipcover, and when it lived IN the kitchen (it’s way in background behind my hand and in front of the window).  I also like this pic because this was the early days of this house.  Before the addition, before the kitchen remodel…just me, my experimental color palette and my thrifted items. It’s come a long way baby!

Today, the loveseat has found a home in the dining nook. The family loves it—it’s cozy, comfortable, and perfectly captures my "brown with flowers" design!

One Last Thought on Reviving Your Space with Tablecloths

Sometimes, the simplest swaps make the biggest difference! Case in point: I turned a tablecloth into a bedspread. I originally purchased this lovely tablecloth with dreams of transforming it into ruffled curtains. But, as often happens with DIY projects, life got in the way, and my vision stayed just that—a vision.

Then, one day, while tidying up, I casually draped it over the bed, curious to see how a pop of red might change the room’s vibe. To my delight, it looked fantastic! The tablecloth brought an unexpected pop of pattern and charm to the room, giving the bed a fresh, inviting look—no sewing required. Sometimes the best design moves are the ones that just fall into place. So if you have a tablecloth you love, try repurposing it; you might discover a whole new look!
